See and Marvel!

God means for us to be thrilled with His Son! God created us, in His own image, so that as His creation we might look upon the glory, beauty, power, and majesty of God in Christ and be amazed and stunned and satisfied. The goal of redemption is that we might look upon the face of God and marvel at His wondrous, soul-saving, eternal life-giving, sinner-rescuing Son. I get that understanding of creation and salvation and ultimate meaning and purpose from texts like these:

1. Revelation 22:3-4: No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His servants will worship Him. They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
2. 2 Thessalonians 1:10: when He comes on that day to be glorified in His saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.

We were created to marvel! To be stunned and amazed by the Person and Work of Christ. To be thrilled by His grace poured out on us to redeem us from our sins. To be fully satisfied with all that God is for us in Christ.
Before Christ returns and we marvel at His appearing, the primary way we see the Savior and marvel at HIs wondrous work in our lives today is by gazing upon Him in Scripture. However, not everyone who reads the Bible stands amazed at the Savior! The glory of Christ is only visible to the eyes of the heart, the heart that has been awakened from death. (1 Cor 2:14, 2 Cor 4:4) In other words, we need the help of the Spirit of God in order to see the beauty and glory of Christ when we see Him in Scripture.
How does this happen today? We must pray for God to open our eyes to see the glory of God in the face of Christ when we read the Bible! Pray before we read our daily Bible reading. Pray before we listen to a sermon. Pray for God to enable us to see what He means for us to see so that we might rejoice in Christ, marvel at Christ, glory in Christ. Pray as the psalmist prays in Psalm 119:18 “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.”
Pray. Read. See. And Marvel! It’s what we were created to do!!
