Do Not be Anxious

Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
It seems that anxiety is a problem of epidemic proportions in our society today. It would probably be staggering to know the number of people who take prescription medications for frequent, debilitating anxiety. We can worry and grow anxious over just about anything. There’s really nothing we do that may not in some way involve some type or level of risk. From what we eat to how we travel to where we travel to events occurring around us. There are no limits to the items that have the potential to cause worry.
On top of that, those who struggle with worry often develop even more scenarios and hypotheticals to worry over. The “what ifs” become too numerous to count. In other words, it is an easy thing to gather plenty of reasons to be anxious. But that’s not God’s desire for His people!
Paul gives us direction and a promise for dealing with our anxious thoughts. Direction: Pray! Pray about whatever it is that causes you to be anxious. Give it to God! Ask for His grace to soothe your mind and for His sovereignty to control the situation. Then, give Him thanks. Thank Him for being faithful in every single point of your life to this point, and thank Him for being faithful to take care of the item you have been worried about. Pray.
Then comes the promise: The peace of God will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Turn your thoughts to Christ Jesus! Give your worry to God in prayer and your mind to Christ in your thoughts, and God will overtake your anxiety with His peace. We can be a people of peace rather than an anxious people!
